• Could tribunal fees make employers blasé?

As we previously reported, it is anticipated that during 2013 employment tribunal fees will be introduced.

The COO of ACAS, Andrew Wareing has now spoken out with his warning of a possible consequence of such an introduction, namely that it may make employers less keen to deal with workplace grievances promptly and internally based on the assumption that many workers would not be in a financial position to bring a claim. Mr Wareing said “If in future a person has to make a payment to make a claim, employers won’t be that interested in early mediation”.

ACAS is now compiling a formal submission on the controversial consultation.
